Old-timer & Electric? But how?
Everybody who ever owned an old-timer will tell you that although they look amazing, their engines are not the most environmental friendly. After all, in the 60’s and 70’s being aware of the environment with your car just wasn’t on anybody’s priority list. In comes Zelectric, a company based in California that is specialized in converting old-timer cars by giving their retro look a suiting engine for the future. they call it; RetroFuture! An electric engine in a vintage car! And boy, does it look amazing!
CEO David Bernando says; “But we’ve always loved our classic VWs and vintage euro-rides. And Tesla, the whole EV thing. So back in the summer of 2006, we thought: wouldn’t it be cool: the juxtaposition of past/future. Take that sweet German design and throw in a high performance electric powertrain. That would just blow us out of the water. Outrageous! We wanted that in our garage.”
How much does it cost?
Zelectric has their own converted car collection. These are ready to be bought by passioned owners. The company also offers to convert your old-timmer into an electric version. Price start at $68,000 for Volkswagen Beetle and conversion wil range between $49,000-$60,000 depending on the model.
That might sound look a high price for just a 80 miles range, but you will save a lot of money on gas and of course you will contribute to saving the environment.
